Sell My Phones

How It Works

Knowing exactly how to sell your phone makes the trade-in process easier to follow and reduces the chance of a revised valuation later. Sell My Phones uses a straightforward journey: identify the correct device, describe it accurately, prepare your personal data, send it securely or arrange a Bristol drop-off, and allow the phone to be inspected before the final payment decision. The steps below explain what to do and why each stage matters.

Step 1: find the exact make, model and storage

Start with the phone catalogue and search. Choose the precise model rather than the closest-looking handset. This is especially important for families that include standard, Plus, Pro, Pro Max, Ultra, Fold or Flip versions. Check the storage capacity in the phone settings where possible. You can also browse the dedicated iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel ranges. An accurate model selection gives the valuation process the right starting point.

Step 2: describe the condition honestly

Next, compare the phone with the available condition choices. Look at both cosmetic wear and function. Check the screen and back glass for cracks, the frame for significant dents or bends, and the cameras for damaged lenses. Test charging, buttons, speakers, microphones and other everyday functions. Battery performance can also affect value. If the phone has a fault, say so rather than choosing a higher grade. Our phone condition guide explains the difference between a clean working device, a worn handset and a faulty or damaged phone.

Step 3: review the valuation as an initial assessment

The amount shown or discussed before the phone is received depends on the details you provide and the market for that exact device. It should be treated as an assessment based on those details, with the final valuation confirmed after inspection. This protects both sides: you know which information the initial figure used, and the team can check the same details when the handset arrives. If there is a material difference in model, storage or condition, a revised offer may be needed before the trade-in is completed.

Step 4: back up and remove personal data

Before the device leaves you, save anything you want to keep. Back up photographs, videos, contacts, messages, authenticator access and other important information. Sign out of Apple, Google, Samsung or other cloud accounts, remove activation or device-protection locks, and remove SIM and removable memory cards. When you are confident the backup is complete, factory-reset the handset. The data wipe guide gives a more detailed checklist and explains why account locks must be removed as well as visible files.

Step 5: package the handset securely

For a postal trade-in, use the sending method provided with your instructions and keep the tracking details or proof of posting. Protect the screen and body with padding, use a strong outer package, and fill empty space so the phone cannot move around. Do not place loose hard objects beside the handset because they can damage it in transit. Unless your instructions specifically request accessories, do not assume chargers, cases or other extras are required. Read our postage and delivery guide before sealing the parcel.

Step 6: Bristol customers can ask about local drop-off

If you are in Bristol and would rather bring the phone in person, contact us before travelling. Our local contact point is 55 Gloucester Road, Bristol, BS7 8AD and the usual published hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:30pm. Bringing the device in does not remove the need for accurate model and condition information, but it can be convenient if you prefer face-to-face support or are unsure about posting. Use the contact page to confirm the most suitable next step.

Step 7: inspection checks the original description

When the phone is received, it is checked against the details used for the valuation request. The inspection can include model and storage confirmation, physical condition, screen and camera checks, charging and other functions, and account-lock status. If the phone matches the description, the trade-in can progress. If something important differs, the revised position should be explained before completion. This is why an honest description at the start is usually the quickest route through the process.

Step 8: payment follows a successful inspection

Payment is released after the device has been received and successfully checked under the applicable trade-in process. Exact bank processing times can vary outside our control, so the safest wording is payment after successful inspection rather than a promise that every transfer will be visible at the same minute. If you want to understand a particular situation before sending a handset, see the frequently asked questions or contact the team.

Start by finding your exact phone. The model, storage and condition you select are the foundation of the whole journey, so a careful first step can save time later. You can browse all supported phones, go directly to a brand range, or ask us for help if your device is not listed.
