Device Ownership, Finance, Blacklist & Account Locks
Check that you have the right to sell the device and understand any finance, network, activation or organisation restrictions before it leaves your possession.

Four checks to complete before selling
A usable handset can still be impossible to process normally if the seller does not have clear ownership or if security and management restrictions remain attached.
Right to sell
Do not send a device that is stolen, found, subject to someone else’s ownership claim or controlled by an employer, school or organisation without authority.
Finance & contracts
Selling a handset does not automatically cancel or transfer obligations under a network or finance agreement. Check your agreement if money remains due.
Network & blacklist
If you know a phone is blacklisted or restricted, disclose that before sending. A restriction can affect lawful reuse and the valuation.
Apple, Google & Samsung locks
- Remove Apple Find My / Activation Lock.
- Remove Google accounts in the correct order to avoid Factory Reset Protection.
- Sign out of Samsung and other manufacturer accounts where applicable.
- Do not send passwords, PINs or security codes.
Business & school management
Phones, tablets and laptops may be enrolled in mobile-device-management or enterprise security systems. These should be released by the authorised administrator before sale.
If a restriction is found during inspection
| Issue | What can happen |
|---|---|
| Activation/account lock | Processing may pause while the lock is removed or clarified. |
| Wrong ownership / third-party claim | The trade-in may be unable to proceed normally. |
| Blacklist/network restriction | Eligibility or value can change after verification. |
| Finance concern | You remain responsible for obligations under your agreement. |
